Going home for Diwali 2026? Share the cab and split the fare

Diwali 2026 falls in the first week of November, and trains and buses out of Pune fill up fast. A one-way cab home costs about ₹2,400 to Mumbai or ₹2,900 to Nashik when you go alone; shared by four, that's ₹600 or ₹725 each. Here's when the rush is, what each person pays, and how to share the ride.

Checked on 28 October 2026. Prices are the starting prices Uber's route pages listed that day. Festival-week fares can be higher, and the price the app shows when you book is the one that counts.

When the rush is

Dhanteras falls on Friday, 6 November 2026, and Lakshmi Puja on Sunday, 8 November, with Padwa and Bhau Beej in the days after. Your local panchang has the exact days.

That puts the busiest days out of Pune around Thursday 5 and Friday 6 November, and the return rush after Bhau Beej. Train tickets for those days are often waitlisted weeks ahead, and buses fill up. A one-way cab shared with people going your way is still there at the last minute, and it leaves when you want.

What a cab home costs, shared

One-way cab from Pune, split equally (Uber's listed starting prices, rounded)
Pune to Distance Cab, one way 2 sharing 3 sharing 4 sharing
Ahilyanagar about 125 km about ₹2,500 ₹1,250 ₹833 ₹625
Mumbai about 155 km about ₹2,400 ₹1,200 ₹800 ₹600
Nashik about 215 km about ₹2,900 ₹1,450 ₹967 ₹725
Latur about 355 km about ₹6,900 ₹3,450 ₹2,300 ₹1,725

On 28 October 2026, Uber's Intercity route pages listed ₹2,474 to Ahilyanagar, ₹2,396 to Mumbai, ₹2,905 to Nashik and ₹6,915 to Latur. Sedans and SUVs cost more, local taxi operators quote their own prices, and tolls may be extra. For other towns, the app shows a price before you book. Going to Mumbai? Pickups and drops along the way

An outstation cab doesn't need everyone to start in the same place. A cab to Nashik passes Chakan, so someone there can join on the way, and someone going to Sangamner can get off before the end. When people ride different distances, split the fare by distance instead of equally.

Example. A cab from Pune to Mumbai costs ₹2,400. Asha and Rohan ride the whole way, about 150 km each. Neel gets off at Lonavala, 60 km along. Together they ride 150 + 150 + 60 = 360 km.

  • Asha: 150 of 360 km → ₹1,000
  • Rohan: 150 of 360 km → ₹1,000
  • Neel: 60 of 360 km → ₹400

More ways to split are in how to split a cab fare fairly, and the full guide to outstation cab sharing covers pickups on the highway.

Agree on these before you leave

  • Luggage. Sweets, gifts and a bag each add up. Say how many bags you have when you join; four people with suitcases need an SUV.
  • Time and pickup order. Be at your stop 10 minutes early. Roads out of the city are slow on festival evenings.
  • Who books and pays the driver, and whether you split equally or by distance. Settle by UPI as soon as you get out.
  • One break on longer trips, for food and toilets.
  • The trip back. It's a separate ride. Many people come back on the same days, so look for a ride back as soon as you know your date.

Diwali in the city

Shopping trips, visits to family and late nights mean a lot of short rides in festival week, and parking near the markets is hard. In Maharashtra, app cabs can't charge more than 1.5 times the base fare, festivals included; here's what the surge rules allow. Going together with friends or family heading the same way still halves the cost.

Stay safe

  • Meet at a busy, well-lit public spot, not a doorstep.
  • Share the trip's live location with someone at home.
  • Keep your phone charged, and keep valuables and gifts with you, not in a boot you can't see.

How Sobat helps

Search where you're going and choose Outstation. You'll see rides already going that way, including ones whose route passes near you. Join one, or start your own: everyone searching that route sees it. For a planned ride you can approve who joins, and keep most of the way on so only people sharing at least half the trip take the seats. The ride room splits the fare by distance, and anyone can adjust their own share. You book the cab yourselves and settle by UPI; Sobat never handles the money.
