Pune ↔ Mumbai

Pune to Mumbai shared cab: fare, toll and what each person pays

A one-way cab between Pune and Mumbai costs about ₹2,400, plus ₹320 for the expressway toll if the fare doesn't include it. Shared by four, that's ₹600 to ₹680 each, at a time you choose. Here's what to check in the fare, where to meet on either side, and how to split it when people get off at different places.

Checked on 28 October 2026. Fares are what Uber's route pages listed that day. They change with traffic and demand, and the price the app shows when you book is the one that counts.

The route

Most cabs take the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, about 95 km from Kiwale on Pune's side to Kalamboli near Panvel. City to city, the trip is about 150 to 160 km (Uber's average is 155 km) and usually takes 3 to 4 hours, depending on where you start, where you're going in Mumbai and the traffic at each end. Lonavala and Khandala are on the way.

What it costs

On 28 October 2026, Uber's route pages listed an intercity sedan between Pune and Mumbai at about ₹2,300 to ₹2,600 one way, in either direction. The expressway toll for a car is ₹320 one way. It was last raised on 1 April 2023, and officials said there would be no revision in 2026. Check whether your fare includes it.

Pune ↔ Mumbai one-way cab, split equally
People sharing Fare about ₹2,400 With the ₹320 toll on top (₹2,720)
1 (alone) ₹2,400 ₹2,720
2 ₹1,200 ₹1,360
3 ₹800 ₹907
4 ₹600 ₹680

Where to meet in Pune

  • West side (Hinjewadi, Wakad, Baner, Aundh, Pimpri-Chinchwad): meet near the highway towards the expressway, around Wakad, Ravet or Kiwale.
  • East side or the centre (Kharadi, Viman Nagar, Koregaon Park, Shivajinagar): the cab crosses the city first. Choose one stop on a main road rather than several pickups across town; every extra stop adds time and kilometres.

Pick a spot that's easy to name, like a petrol pump, a landmark or a bus stop, and be there 10 minutes early.

Drops in Mumbai

  • Navi Mumbai (Kharghar, Belapur, Vashi) is on the usual way in, so those drops come first.
  • Then Chembur and Sion, and on to the western suburbs (Bandra, Andheri) or South Mumbai.
  • Thane is in a different direction from the expressway's end. Agree on it before you book.
  • Flying out? The new Navi Mumbai airport is near the expressway's Mumbai end; the main Mumbai airport, at Santacruz and Andheri, is further in.

When drops are far apart, split by distance instead of equally:

Example. A cab from Wakad costs ₹2,700. Meera rides to Andheri, about 150 km. Arjun gets off at Vashi, about 120 km. Together they ride 150 + 120 = 270 km.

  • Meera: 150 of 270 km → ₹1,500
  • Arjun: 120 of 270 km → ₹1,200

Alone, Meera would have paid ₹2,700.

More ways to split are in how to split a cab fare fairly.

Mumbai to Pune

The same route the other way. Navi Mumbai pickups come on the way out of the city, and in Pune the west side (Wakad, Hinjewadi, Baner) comes first. Uber listed about ₹2,350 to ₹2,450 for this direction.

When people go

  • Weekly commutes: to Mumbai on Monday morning and back on Friday evening, or the other way round. These are some of the busiest times on the expressway.
  • Weekends and long weekends, including trips to Lonavala.
  • Flights from either Mumbai airport.

If you travel on a fixed day, plan the ride the day before so others can find it.

Check before you book

  • The toll: is the ₹320 included?
  • One way: ask for a one-way price; some quotes assume a return trip.
  • Waiting time at each pickup, and night charges for very early or late trips.
  • Luggage: four people with suitcases need an SUV.

Train, bus or shared cab?

Trains such as the Deccan Queen and the buses cost less per seat, but they run at fixed times between stations. A shared cab costs more than a bus seat, leaves when you choose and gets you closer to your door. With three or four sharing, the gap is smaller than most people expect.

Stay safe

Meet at a busy public spot, share the trip's live location with someone, and check the cab's number before you get in. Our guide to sharing a cab with strangers safely has the full checklist, and outstation cab sharing covers pickups on the highway.

How Sobat helps

Search Pune to Mumbai (or the other way) and Sobat treats it as an Outstation ride. It follows the road, so you'll see rides whose route passes near you even if they start across town, with when the cab reaches you and how many kilometres you'd share. Join one, or start your own: everyone searching that route sees it. For a planned ride you can approve who joins, and keep most of the way on so only people sharing at least half the trip take the seats. The ride room splits the fare by distance, and anyone can adjust their own share. You book the cab yourselves and settle by UPI; Sobat never handles the money.
